What kind of children’s books about Illinois are there?

First off, there are so many children’s books set in Chicago specifically that it’s really hard to find out stuff about the whole of Illinois that is NOT Chicago. So, if you know of any non-Chicago children’s books, please let me know.

In the meantime, here are some fun finds to keep you busy.

Larry Gets Lost has two books for kids about Chicago. For the younger set there’s Chicago ABCs and for those that want more of a story you’ll find it in Larry Gets Lost in Chicago.

Let’s go to Chicago is a picture book about a family’s visit to the city. These are the types of books I like to read before my own trips.

And for something that’s not Chicago-specific, the reliable board book from Good Night Our World series gives us, Good Night Illinois.

What are some family-friendly bookish things to do in Illinois?

Chicago is home to the American Writers Museum. It appeals to book fans of all ages with a special children’s section. They also have storytime, so be sure to check out their events page before a visit. Here are some Chicago hotels.
