CHILDREN’S BOOKS SET IN CALIFORNIA
Oh, California. This state is probably one of the most popular family destinations in the U.S. With sites like Disneyland and awesome National Parks. The beaches and the mountains. Awesome cities in San Francisco and San Diego. And all in between – these children’s books set in California will get your family started on the right foot to start thinking about your trip.
What kind of children’s books about California will you find here?
There are cute board books like So Big! Yosemite and All Aboard! California. A really amazing picture book, Redwoods. Doodling fans will appreciate City Doodle: Los Angeles. Children reading chapter books have several options including, Lost in Hollywood and Ranger in Time, Escape from the Great Earthquake. One fun book for food fans is Chef Roy Choi and the Street Food Remix about the L.A. food culture.
What are some children’s book experiences in California?
The Bookloft in Santa Barbara County is in the Danish-inspired town of Solvang. It only makes sense, then, that this independent bookstore honors one of Denmark’s treasured and world-loved children’s book author Hans Christian Andersen. A floor to the shop is dedicated to his museum. Here are some hotels in Solvang, CA.
Mark Twain fans may want to visit where he was born. I know you’re thinking he was born in Missouri, not California and that’s kind of true. The man who became Mark Twain, Samuel Clemens, was born in Missouri. But when Samuel Clemens started writing as Mark Twain, he was in California. Here are some hotels in Sonora, CA.
Sure Harry Potter takes place very far away from Los Angeles, but the Universal Studios Hollywood Wizarding World of Harry Potter is still a fun trip for any Harry Potter Fan. It’s ok that it’s there because of the popularity of the movies, but the movies were made because of the books so I say – go.
Children’s book fans may want to check out Children’s Book World in Los Angeles. They’ve been around since the 1980s and have over 80,000 books + other fun things for kids to learn about the world.
There are a ton of hotels in Los Angeles, but here are a few I have stayed at and recommend: Andaz West Hollywood, Beverly Hilton, Omni Los Angeles, Millenium Biltmore, and the Hollywood Roosevelt.
I’ve also written more in these blog posts that highlight California book-related things.
