Description
In the 19th century, Cuban-born Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda (aka Tula)wrote poetry. Her poetry includes her thoughts on opposing slavery in Cuba, which was a very dangerous position to have.
In this book, the author uses poetry to talk about Tula’s life.
“I find it so easy to forget / that I’m just a girl who is expected / to live / without thoughts.”
