Tasi’s Gift is a touching story about Tuala, a young girl who learns the value of selfless giving from her grandfather Tasi, with the help of a surprising assortment of creative animals. The story is set on Upolu Island in Samoa at a time long before the present. Tasi, the most famous bowl carver in Samoa, must prepare a kava bowl beautiful enough for the new Matai, the Chief of their village, to be presented at a fiafia, a celebration. With his granddaughter’s help, he carves a traditional bowl, but is not satisfied with it. After leaving it overnight in a beachside fale, he and Tuala discover the bowl transformed with intricate carvings suitable for the new chief.
