Traveling to the Czech Republic? Here are some of my personal recommendations.
The Czech Republic, and specifically Prague, holds a special place in my family travel heart.
Prague was the first destination I traveled to as the mother of two kids that was completely new to me. My youngest was around 6 months old. We were living in Germany and had traveled throughout Germany and the Netherlands, even spent some time in the U.S. in those 6 months, but our trip to Prague was not just their time visiting – but, mine too. I didn’t know the language, didn’t know much of the history, and kind of faltered. I felt a little stuck. “We’re here, now what?”
I’m a confident traveler. Because of my time working in the travel industry and studying different countries in college, I usually have a sense of things before I go there. Visiting Prague wasn’t just my first time visiting a place that I knew very little about since having kids, it’s probably the first time I’ve done that… ever.
We ended up at this gorgeous hotel in the Lesser Town District of the city. My disconnect to my surroundings was obvious right away. I didn’t know what the money was, what common customs were, what type of food Prague was known for. So, we booked a walking tour of the city and I opened myself to this type of travel.
I learned a lot on this trip. I learned that it doesn’t matter where you go, there are always going to be kids there and if there are kids there are family-friendly things to do. That playgrounds may not be a reason to travel to a foreign place, but it’s pretty cool experiencing new playground equipment with the backdrop of a gorgeous castle or city-view in the background. And I learned that although I can be spontaneous and go with the flow when I travel, I much prefer going into a place with some general knowledge about it first. I don’t need to have a minute-by-minute itinerary, but I need some frame of reference to connect it for me.
And that’s when I decided to start writing a family travel blog, which led to me eventually starting this blog, which is why the Czech Republic holds such a special place in my family travel heart.
And with that – here are some destination recommendations for you to consider.

Prague for Families
Fun things to do with kids when visiting Prague
If you’re like us and visiting Prague for the first time you may consider this family-friendly private tour of the city. It’s a nice overview of the city’s highlights, a way to acclimate yourself and your family, and may lead to discoveries for the rest of your trip.
Another amazing thing Viator has recently introduced is a Prague Family Kit. The Prague Family Kit includes 3 self-guided tour itineraries, a book for kids and a book for adults, plus accessories and a bag to help make the time fun. This kit is customized to the age range (just let them know) and they will deliver it to your hotel if you request it. I haven’t tried it myself, but I can say that I love the idea of this.
