Robin wants to travel. And because she is a bird, she can.
Where is Robin: USA follows Robin on her first trip to many of the coolest places in the United States. She spends a short time at each destination, focuses on what makes it special, and then moves on to the next. She zig-zags across the country and her visits include popular cities, national parks, beaches, and important cultural and historical sites.
Traveling throughout the United States and seeing so many different places may seem overwhelming. There are so many options. However, Robin manages to zone in on places that showcase the variety this country has to offer. Which is awesome.
I was provided a copy of the book for review, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
A review of Where is Robin
Whether you are a family who loves reading about different destinations or traveling to different destinations, this book is for you. The illustrations are gorgeous and capture the feel of the location instantly. My kids loved to play a game of “Where is Robin?” as they looked for the bird on every page. The story emphasized the specific sites and attractions in a way to make it open for discussion. Parents who are familiar with those can easily start talking about them in depth before continuing on in the story.
Every page gives the reader some insight into what there is to do in the represented states and cities, but it gives the parent a lot of insight into what kids gravitate to.
For example, when my son heard the words “National Park” his ears perked up. He immediately reminded me of our summer trips to different National Parks where he earned Junior Ranger Badges. This helps me when thinking about what book to read next for him, or where I should consider planning our next trip.
His favorite line:
In Wyoming lies Yellowstone National Park.
She saw all kinds of animals until it became dark!
My daughter, however, loved the mention of theater in Chicago, Nashville, and New York. She loves towards cities like her mom. Now I’m thinking of things we can do together that will be fun.
Her favorite line:
In the brilliant spotlight of the Grande Ole Opry,
Robin launched her country song in America’s music city.
It’s hard to find a book that covers a whole country, especially one as large as the United States, and still feel satisfied that there is enough without it being packed to the brim. This book does it. Robin doesn’t acknowledge every state, but she visits a lot. It’s not a checklist of the most popular sites. It is a combination of selections that keep it interesting.
My kids don’t realize the vast area of land Robin flew over during the course of the book, but they found the story and illustrations very engaging. They interrupted the story constantly to point something out, and that, to me, is the sign of a good book!
