Why this is my favorite Netherlands Picture Book

While I don’t own 1000 Things about Holland, I do have Holland by Charlotte Dematons. It is not just my favorite books about one of my favorite countries, it is one of my favorite picture books.

Last summer I visited the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. The hallways showcase some of the best images from children’s books. The bookstore houses the best books. I wanted them all. However, a small budget and many choices made it difficult. I needed the signed copies of popular children’s books. There were all the books my kids wanted. And there was this book, Holland.

After considering all of my options, I knew that I needed to own Holland. Like I said a second ago, it is one of my favorite places to visit. (I even have a page dedicated to visiting the Netherlands with kids.)

Sometimes I just stare at the images. Reminisce our past trips. Discover new details. Look forward to things I can do the next time we’re there.

I don’t say this about a lot of books, but it is definitely the one book I wish there was a version of for every country in the world.

That said, I highly recommend this for anyone who has a special place in their heart for the Netherlands (kids or adults), or someone who loves good art books.
