Description
In the 1980s the author, Simon Schwartz, was still a little kid. His family lived in Erfurt, a city on the border of East part of the East/West border.
As much as I’ve personally studied this period in German history, I still find it very interesting to learn more. For this particular story, Schwartz and his family moved to West Germany. As a kid, he is still allowed to visit his grandparents on the other side of the wall. It gives a lot of insight to life on both sides of the wall, and is filled with references that I want to research more about.
Visiting Berlin with kids
If you’re interested in The Other Side of the Wall and planning a trip to Berlin, I recommend a Cold War Walking Tour. This one linked is through Viatour. It includes many sights that are included in this book and important to anyone who wants to better understand cold war Berlin. You can also click here for more tips for visiting Germany with kids.
